Renowned Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Celebrates Centenary Milestone
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent warm felicitations to the illustrious Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, on the exceptional occasion of his 100th birthday celebration. The President’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed Tinubu’s regards in a statement released on Tuesday.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, a distinguished figure who has played a pivotal role in shaping Islamic teachings and moral standards in present-day Nigeria, hails from Nafada, originally part of Bauchi State but now situated in Gombe State. Currently, he resides in Kofar Gombe.
The centenarian began his journey as a Hafizul Qur-ān, mastering the memorization of the Holy Qur’an before turning 20, under the tutelage of his father, Alhaji Usman, and later studying under various esteemed Islamic scholars, with Sheikh Ibrāhīm Inyass as his most influential mentor.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, recognized as a Qur’anic memorization and education expert, has gained worldwide acclaim as a prominent Mufassirun, renowned for his exceptional abilities in translating the Holy Qur’an.
Initiating his Tafsīr activities in Bauchi State in 1948, the revered Sheikh has dedicated 76 years to interpreting the Holy Qur’an, with his teachings broadcasted by numerous radio stations across Northern Nigeria, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Sheikh Bauchi, a notable leader of the Tijjaniyya sect, boasts an extensive family, including 100 children, 406 grandchildren, and 100 great-grandchildren, all of whom have continued his legacy of Qur’anic memorization.
Famed for performing Hajj 55 times and Umrah 205 times, the Sheikh has generously provided 1,000 houses in Bauchi, Kaduna, and other Northern states for his children and students, in addition to establishing numerous Islamic schools and farmlands.
His preaching style has inspired countless individuals to embrace Islam, with his teachings emphasizing devotion to Allah, seeking forgiveness, and showing gratitude for divine blessings, alongside sending salutations to Prophet Muhammad. As the Deputy Chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, his influence resonates deeply.
On reaching the rare milestone of a century of life, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi remains a symbol of unwavering dedication to the service of Allah, his nation, and humanity, as praised by notable figures like Malam Ahmad Tijjani Saeed, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Kolo, Sanusi Ahmad, and Muhammad Sogiji, who have lauded his steadfast leadership and advocacy against social vices.
