Report Shows Atlantic Canada Among the Most Overworked Provinces in Canada
Three provinces in Atlantic Canada have emerged as the most overworked in Canada, according to a new report released by Alberta-based personal injury law firm Preszler Injury Lawyers. The data was gathered from Statistics Canada and the National Occupational Classification.
Newfoundland and Labrador was identified as the most overworked province, with workers averaging 38.18 hours per week across all occupations. The natural resources, agriculture, and similar sectors in the province had the highest workloads, with employees working an average of 54.23 hours per week.
Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick ranked second and third, with average workweeks of 37.36 hours and 36.87 hours, respectively. Sectors in these provinces showed notable high work hours, indicating a significant demand on employees.
Nova Scotia placed sixth overall, with an average workweek of 36.06 hours, while Quebec was the only province below 35 hours per week, at 34.72 hours. Notably, only Quebec and Ontario did not have natural resources and agriculture sectors among their most overworked occupations, with management showing higher working hours.
According to the Report, work-life balance has become a critical issue in Canada, with statistics showing that 32% of Canadians feel their job impacts their personal life. More than a quarter of respondents report difficulty managing family responsibilities, while a third struggle with household tasks.
