Rhode Island FC Set for Historic USL Championship Final
Rhode Island FC, the newly established professional soccer team from Pawtucket, is on the verge of making history as it competes for its first USL Championship league title. The team, in its inaugural season, is set to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in a high-stakes match at noon in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Having entered the league as an expansion team in the USL Championship, which is the division directly below Major League Soccer, Rhode Island FC has been temporarily hosting its home games at Bryant University. The team is expected to relocate to a new stadium in the Tidewater Landing district of Pawtucket by 2025.
Rhode Island FC’s journey to the championship has been remarkable, entering the playoffs as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. The team achieved a series of impressive victories against established teams such as Indy Eleven, Louisville City FC, and Charleston Battery to secure a place in the final.
Earlier in the season, the team faced Colorado Springs on May 17, a match that ended with a 3-1 defeat for Rhode Island FC. Frank Nodarse was the sole goal scorer for Rhode Island, while Ronaldo Damus contributed significantly to the victory for Colorado Springs with two goals, and Rhode Island FC suffered an own goal.
Supporters of Rhode Island FC are gathering at Moonshine Alley in Providence for the official watch party to cheer on their team from afar. The enthusiasm is high as fans and supporters look forward to what could be a historic victory for the Bruce and Gold.
