Rick Moranis Spotted in Rare Public Appearance in Manhattan
Actor Rick Moranis, widely recognized for his roles in iconic films of the 1980s and 1990s, made a rare public appearance in New York City on Friday, November 15. The 71-year-old actor was seen strolling through Manhattan, bundled up in a brown jacket, dark brown gloves, a green hat, green-brown pants, and brown shoes, while accessorizing with brown framed glasses and carrying a black tote bag.
Moranis gained fame with his role in the 1984 film «Ghostbusters,» alongside stars like Dan Aykroyd. He followed this with memorable performances in several other hit films, including «The Flintstones,» «Parenthood,» «Little Shop of Horrors,» and «Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.» Despite his success, Moranis stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight in the 1990s to focus on raising his children following the death of his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, in 1991.
While largely maintaining a private life away from the big screen, Moranis has occasionally taken on voice roles. In a previous interview, he explained his decision to pause his acting career, stating, «I took a break, which turned into a longer break. Stuff happens to people all the time, and people make adjustments, change careers, move to another city. Really, that’s all I did.» He expressed no regrets about prioritizing his family life over his Hollywood career.
Recently, it was announced that Moranis would reprise his role as Wayne Szalinski in a «Honey, I Shrunk the Kids» reboot titled «Shrunk,» alongside Josh Gad. The project has faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as scheduling and budgetary issues, and remains in pre-production as of November 2024.
Actress Amy O’Neill, who played Moranis’s on-screen daughter in «Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,» spoke with People earlier this year, fondly recalling her time working with the actor. «Rick was always warm but respectful, always kind, professional and on his game. I’m so proud to have called him Dad,» she said.
