Rookie Carson Steele Shines in Preseason Finale for Kansas City Chiefs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In the preseason finale held at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, rookie running back Carson Steele made a significant impact for the Kansas City Chiefs during their game against the Chicago Bears.
Steele, an undrafted rookie from UCLA, showcased his skills in the first half, executing a strong offensive drive. On the very first play, he rushed for an impressive 18 yards, followed by a 32-yard run that appeared to secure a touchdown.
However, after review, the touchdown was overturned as Steele was ruled to have been pushed out of bounds just short of the goal line. Demonstrating resilience, Steele received the ball again and successfully plowed in for a one-yard touchdown, culminating an impressive three-play drive totaling 50 yards.
Finishing the preseason, Steele recorded 11 carries for 87 yards. His contributions extended beyond rushing; he also showcased his versatility with a noteworthy 29-yard return during the game. Additionally, Steele recorded three tackles, demonstrating his willingness to contribute on special teams.
Steele expressed his excitement about scoring and contributing to the team. He acknowledged the challenges of being an undrafted player on a championship-caliber team but remained focused on improving each day.
Previously, Steele had an impactful collegiate career, highlighted by rushing for 1,556 yards and 14 touchdowns in his final season at UCLA. Now, with a strong preseason performance, he is hopeful for a spot on the Chiefs’ opening day roster.
With the potential for a promising future, Steele hopes to settle down in Kansas City and continue to care for his pet alligator, affectionately named ‘Crocky J’, pending local regulations.
