Rory Mcilroy Tied For Lead At Us Open With Exceptional Opening Round

Rory McIlroy showcased his skill and composure at the US Open, drawing level with Patrick Cantlay after an outstanding bogey-free 65 in his opening round. Cantlay, the early pacesetter, shares the lead with McIlroy after a day where scoring proved challenging.

McIlroy expressed satisfaction with his controlled and disciplined round of golf, emphasizing the importance of minimizing mistakes. His impressive display puts him in contention for his first major victory since 2014.

Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion, had a subdued day, finishing at one-over 71, while Xander Schauffele posted a 70. McIlroy’s stellar performance outshone his playing partners, creating a six-shot cushion over Scheffler.

Belgium’s Thomas Detry, a rising star in major championships, continued his strong form, currently tied eighth at the US Open after 14 holes.

Bryson DeChambeau‘s consistent play saw him finish with a solid three-under 67, positioning him well in the top five alongside Cantlay, McIlroy, and two other Europeans, Åberg and Pavon.
