Dr. (Mrs.) Rosemond Wilson Appointed New Head of WAEC Ghana National Office
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Rosemond Wilson as the new Head of its Ghana National Office. This significant transition comes as Mrs. Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey proceeds to retirement after dedicated service.
Dr. Wilson, who joined WAEC in September 1997, brings a wealth of knowledge and rich experience accumulated over her 27-year career in educational assessments and examinations. Her extensive background equips her well for the leadership role.
Before assuming her new position, Dr. Wilson served as the acting Head of the Test Development Division within the Council. Her journey within WAEC has been one marked by progression through various roles that have contributed to her expertise.
Dr. Wilson’s academic career commenced in the early 1990s when she took on the role of Elective Mathematics Tutor at both Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High Technical School and later at Tarkwa Senior High School, both located in Ghana’s Western Region.
After joining WAEC in 1997, Dr. Wilson climbed the ranks from her initial position as an officer in the Records and Aptitude Test Department to becoming a Subject Officer focusing on Mathematics.
Throughout her tenure, she has also occupied several important leadership positions, including the head of the Mathematics Section, the Post Examinations Department, and the Test Development Division (TDD), during which she implemented various initiatives aimed at enhancing examination quality and fairness.
Dr. Wilson’s career showcases her commitment to developing effective processes and policies that not only improve productivity but also yield significant organizational outcomes.
Her journey in academia began at Holy Child Senior High School located in Cape Coast, where she completed her General Certificate of Education (GCE) with Ordinary and Advanced Level qualifications. She then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, obtaining honors from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
In addition to her undergraduate qualifications, Dr. Wilson holds two Master’s degrees – an MSc. in Statistics and an M.A. in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Cape Coast. Further, she earned a PhD. in Mathematics Education from the University of Education, Winneba, underscoring her commitment to furthering her expertise.
Dr. Wilson has also actively participated in numerous local and international conferences, presenting papers focused on mathematics education and assessment, indicating her desire to contribute to the broader educational discourse.
