Nathan Rourke is set to step back onto the field as the starting quarterback for the B.C. Lions as they face off against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Vancouver this Sunday.

n

Rourke recently rejoined the Lions after an unsuccessful attempt to secure a spot on an NFL roster. While he hasn’t played in a meaningful game since winter 2022, he left the CFL as the reigning Most Outstanding Player.

n

This upcoming game is crucial for the Lions (5-4), especially since they are coming off three straight losses, including a rough 25-0 defeat in Winnipeg. With starting quarterback Vernon Adams still sidelined due to injury, Rourke will be taking on the pressure of leading the team.

n

The Bombers, currently at 3-6, have a solid record after a bye week, winning 15 of their last 16 games in that scenario. Their defense is strong, ranking first in fewest yards allowed per game.

n

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Redblacks are welcoming back veteran quarterback Jeremiah Masoli for their Thursday night clash against the Calgary Stampeders. This will be Masoli’s first start since suffering an Achilles injury last season.

n

Masoli, who has had his share of injuries over the years, replaces Dru Brown, who is out with a foot issue. Despite being without speedy receiver Kalil Pimpleton, the Redblacks are hopeful after an unbeaten run of 3-0-1 in their last four games.

n

The Stampeders have yet to lose at home this season, with their record at McMahon Stadium sitting at 4-0. However, their last game saw them lose to the Toronto Argonauts, who dominated in the second half.

n

In another matchup, the Montreal Alouettes are expected to have quarterback Davis Alexander lead them in a third straight start as they take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night.

n

Finally, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will see Taylor Powell start for the first time this season against the Edmonton Elks. Edmonton’s Tre Ford is questionable due to a rib injury, leading to a possible return for veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
