Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, faced a severe blow to his legal career as the Appellate Division First Department in New York disbarred him on Tuesday. This action was a direct consequence of Giuliani’s involvement in making false and misleading statements while representing former President Donald Trump and the Trump campaign during the 2020 election.
The court ruling highlighted that Giuliani’s actions contributed to national strife and undermined the legal profession’s integrity. It emphasized that Giuliani’s misconduct was deliberate and that he showed no signs of remorse for his actions. The court expressed grave concern over how Giuliani’s false statements exacerbated tensions following the 2020 Presidential election.
Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, announced plans to appeal the court’s decision, labeling it as politically biased and flawed. Goodman stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and hoped that the appellate process would rectify what he viewed as an unjust judgment against Giuliani.
Additionally, Giuliani was recently named in a lawsuit in Maricopa County, Arizona, along with several allies of Donald Trump and alleged fake electors. The lawsuit accused them of attempting to overturn the election results in the state. This legal battle added to Giuliani’s mounting legal troubles.
In a separate legal case, Giuliani agreed to settle a defamation lawsuit filed by two former Georgia election workers. The settlement came after a judge ruled against Giuliani, ordering him to pay a substantial judgment for defaming the two women. This latest development further tarnished Giuliani’s legal reputation.
