Rugby League Legend Terry Hill Passes Away at 52

Former NRL player and rugby league icon, Terry Hill, has tragically passed away at the age of 52. Hill, known for his stellar career with various clubs, reportedly suffered a heart attack in the Philippines.
During his prime, Hill showcased his talent in 246 first-grade games across different teams, notably the Manly Sea Eagles. He was a strong representative for New South Wales in State of Origin matches and proudly wore the green and gold of Australia on nine occasions.
Hill’s legacy includes being part of Manly’s 1996 ARL premiership-winning team. He was not only a formidable player but also a beloved figure in the rugby league community.
One of the most memorable moments in Hill’s career was his intense face-off with Queensland Maroons‘ Gorden Tallis during a State of Origin match in 1999, a scene etched in Australian rugby league history.
Manly Sea Eagles’ CEO, Tony Mestrov, expressed deep sorrow over Hill’s passing, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport. Hill’s former teammates, including Geoff Toovey, also extended their heartfelt condolences.
Aside from his on-field achievements, Hill was an avid supporter of greyhound racing and played a vital role in promoting the sport. Rob Macaulay, CEO of Greyhound Racing NSW, lamented the loss of Hill, highlighting his enduring passion for greyhound racing.
The Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman, Peter V’landys AM, hailed Hill as a talented player and an entertaining personality, fondly remembered for his appearances on Channel Nine’s The Footy Show. V’landys conveyed his deepest sympathies to Hill’s family and friends, reflecting on the impact Hill had on the rugby league fraternity.
