Ryan Lowe Leaves Preston North End
In a surprising turn of events, Ryan Lowe has parted ways with Preston North End just one match into the new Championship season. After a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home against Sheffield United, the decision was made following discussions that took place on Sunday, August 11.
Lowe, who has been with the club for two and a half years, expressed that he felt it was the right time to leave. He mentioned he had an incredible experience at the club but believed it was time for Preston to explore a new direction.
“I’ve had an unbelievable two-and-a-half years, met some incredible people and coached some fantastic players,” Lowe said. “But now is the right time for the club to go in a different direction.”
As interim management takes over, Mike Marsh, along with Peter Murphy and Ched Evans, will lead the team as they prepare for their upcoming matches against Sunderland and Swansea.
Preston’s director, Peter Ridsdale, mentioned that the club doesn’t have a new manager lined up just yet and will take their time in finding the right fit. The decision for Lowe to step down was not taken lightly, considering the atmosphere during the recent match and the tension that had been building.
Last season ended on a rough note for Preston, as they lost their final five games without scoring a single goal. Lowe’s relationship with the fans had started to show signs of strain, particularly evident during the loss on Friday night when he was booed off the pitch.
Appointed in December 2021, Lowe led the team to finishes of 13th, 12th, and finally 10th in his tenure. However, this last defeat placed Preston at the bottom of the Championship table, stirring up frustrations among supporters.
