Rylan Clark Urges Respect for ‘I’m a Celeb’ Contestant Tulisa Amid Health Revelations
Broadcaster Rylan Clark has urged viewers of «I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!» to refrain from making negative comments about the appearance of one of the show’s contestants, Tulisa Contostavlos. As the newest series commenced on Sunday, Clark expressed his support for the singer, sharing a picture of her online and advocating against appearance-related criticisms due to her health struggles in recent years.
«Also before people start going for appearance, Tulisa has been through a lot health wise the last few years so let’s not make bad jokes about her on Twitter,» Clark advised his followers.
The 36-year-old N-Dubz star recently disclosed on the «So Wrong It’s Right» podcast with Olivia Attwood that she had used facial fillers to address facial symmetry issues following an episode of Bell’s palsy. Bell’s palsy is a condition that causes temporary paralysis of facial muscles, which had left Contostavlos with swelling and a drop in her facial features.
On the show, Tulisa is joined by fellow celebrity contestants including Coleen Rooney, McFly star Danny Jones, and Love Island’s Maura Higgins. Some social media users posted derogatory comments during the show’s debut, noting her changed appearance compared to previous years.
Tulisa clarified to Attwood that she hadn’t undergone surgery until recently and had only resorted to fillers. She explained she initially turned to injectables after suffering from Bell’s palsy, which had significantly affected her facial appearance.
«I had a massive burst of inflammation, and it went down but my whole face dropped,» she recounted. «I couldn’t move it, my face remained like that for seven months, I didn’t go out, I just hid in the house.» The filler treatment, she noted, was part of a «vicious cycle» to regain facial symmetry.
Earlier this year, an ultrasound detected «three chronically infected cysts» in her cheek, leading to surgery to remove some, though she awaits further removal of any remaining matter.
Tulisa rose to fame as part of N-Dubz in the 2000s before achieving solo success with hits like «Young» and «Sight of You,» and serving as a judge on «The X Factor» in 2011 and 2012. The singer has emphasized the show as an opportunity for viewers to understand her true self, deviating from public perceptions.
During the Australian launch of «I’m a Celebrity,» hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly joked about contestant trials and referenced Coleen Rooney’s notable libel trial. Tulisa, excused from the first Bushtucker trial due to being a camp leader, maintains a positive outlook despite past health challenges.
