Rylan Wiens Finishes Seventh in Men’s 10m Diving at Paris Olympics
Rylan Wiens, representing Canada, came in seventh place in the men’s 10m diving event at the Paris Olympics on Saturday.
Initially, Rylan found himself in a promising third position after the first three dives. However, things took a turn for the worse when he missed his next two dives. Despite this setback, he managed to finish strong with a successful final dive, ending the competition with a total of 445.60 points.
The podium saw the Chinese diver Cao Yuan take the gold with 547.50 points, followed by Japan’s Tamai Rikuto with 507.65 points and Britain’s Noah Williams taking home bronze with 497.35 points. This victory added to China’s exceptional performance in diving, securing eight gold medals out of eight events.
Another Canadian diver, Nathan Zsombor-Murray, wrapped up the competition in 10th place, rounding out the Canadian representation.
Both Zsombor-Murray and Wiens previously won a bronze medal in the synchronized 10m event during these very Games.
Earlier in the competition, Wiens had demonstrated his skills by finishing fifth in the semifinals, while Zsombor-Murray placed 10th. In the finals, Rylan got off on the right foot, scoring 88.80 points on his second dive, a quadruple somersault in a tucked position, and then followed it up with 90.10 points on the third dive.
At one point, he was in the run for the bronze, trailing by just 4.60 points behind Randal Willars Valdez. Unfortunately, after a critical mistake on his fifth dive, he fell further behind, as the Mexican diver pulled ahead.
Rylan ended his performance with 445.60 points, while Willars Valdez was eventually overtaken by Williams, who had a commendable finish.
Interestingly, this event was historic for the Canadian team, as both divers returned home with a bronze medal in the men’s synchronized event, marking a first for Canada in this category.
