Sabarmati Express Derailed Near Kanpur
The Sabarmati Express train derailed in the early hours of Saturday near Kanpur after hitting an object on the tracks. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reported that the incident occurred around 2:35 AM, leading to the derailment of twenty coaches.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities among passengers or staff. The Railways is actively working on rescue and relief operations at the site. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the derailment, as the initial findings suggest involvement of miscreants.
Evidence related to the incident has been secured, with the Intelligence Bureau and Uttar Pradesh Police also involved in the investigation. Vaishnaw shared that sharp hit marks were found on the train’s engine, indicating a significant impact from the object.
Officials mentioned that a boulder appears to have hit the front of the train, damaging the cattle guard. It was noted that another train, the Patna-Indore service, passed through the same track just before the Sabarmati Express without issue.
In response to the situation, buses were arranged to transport the evacuated passengers away from the accident site. The Railways announced the cancellation of seven trains and the rerouting of three trains due to the incident.
