In a surprise move at the 2024 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames have selected Zayne Parekh, a standout defenceman from the Saginaw Spirit, as the ninth overall pick in the draft. Parekh, known for his impressive scoring record, netting 33 goals and 96 points last season, is now set to join the ranks of the Calgary Flames.
Amidst earlier speculations of possibly selecting Tij Iginla, son of legendary Jarome Iginla, the Flames decided to secure Parekh for their team. Instead, Iginla was nabbed by Utah, who had the sixth overall pick in the draft. Notably, former Calgary Hitmen star, Carter Yakemchuk, received the seventh pick from Ottawa.
The first selection in the draft went to Boston University‘s skilled forward, Macklin Celebrini, setting the stage for a series of exciting picks by various NHL teams eager to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season.
