Sandeshkhali Woman Recants Allegations, Accuses BJP of Manipulation: TMC Files Complaint with EC
In an unexpected turn of events in Sandeshkhali, a woman who previously accused local TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh of land grab and sexual harassment has retracted her allegations, claiming they were fabricated by BJP members. She stated that she was coerced into signing a blank paper and manipulated into approaching the police with false claims.
The controversy erupted when multiple women from the Sunderban village accused Shahjahan Sheikh of misconduct. Videos surfaced showing women alleging that BJP members forced them to sign blank papers which were later filled with false rape accusations against TMC leaders.
One video featured a woman stating that they were deceived into signing blank papers and later discovered that rape complaints had been lodged in their names, calling it a blatant lie.
Amid the escalating tensions, TMC MP Sagarika Ghosh met with the Election Commission of India, filing a complaint against the BJP for orchestrating the scheme.
Ghosh expressed that the Sandeshkhali incident was a BJP conspiracy to fabricate rape allegations and demanded action against BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari. She accused Piyali Das of tarnishing the reputation of Sandeshkhali’s residents.
The Sandeshkhali area, part of the Basirhat constituency, gained prominence during the ongoing elections due to the accusations against Shahjahan Sheikh and subsequent developments.
Shahjahan Sheikh, a central figure in the controversy, is currently in custody for his involvement in an incident where Enforcement Directorate officials were assaulted during a raid on his residence.
Recent revelations from Sandeshkhali residents have sparked debates, with a series of videos surfacing and conflicting narratives emerging about the alleged misconduct.
