Saskatoon Blades Reflect on Season as Players Clean Out Lockers
The Saskatoon Blades concluded their 2023-24 season by cleaning out their lockers at SaskTel Centre, following a heartbreaking Game 7 overtime loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Colin Priestner, the emotional president and general manager of the Blades, expressed his disappointment at the sudden end to their dream run, acknowledging the team’s deserving efforts the night before.
Defenceman Ben Saunderson commended the Warriors for an exceptional series, highlighting the rarity of six out of seven games going into overtime.
Graduating captain Trevor Wong and defenceman Charlie Wright bid farewell to the team after heartfelt reflections on their time as Blades.
Colin Priestner praised the departing players, including Fraser Minten and Egor Sidorov, as potential all-time Blades legends for their contributions on and off the ice.
Despite the season’s poignant conclusion, Priestner emphasized the positive impact the team had on the community and the sport, reassuring that the season was not in vain.
In the WHL U.S. Priority Draft, the Blades selected Mason Moreland and Noah Morrison, while also preparing for the upcoming Prospects Draft, with Braden Hordichuk, son of former Blades player Darcy Hordichuk, being a notable selection.
Looking ahead to the future, Saskatoon aims to make strategic moves in the upcoming drafts to strengthen their roster for the seasons to come.
