Savannah Mother Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder of Toddler Son
In a recent court proceeding in Savannah, Georgia, Leilani Simon was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole, plus an additional 10 years. This sentence comes after Simon was convicted on multiple charges, including Malice Murder and Making a False Statement, following the death of her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon.
The presiding judge, Tammy Stokes, delivered the verdict on Thursday. Simon had been found guilty on all 19 counts against her as of October 25, 2023. The charges included Malice Murder, multiple counts of Felony Murder, and various charges associated with making false statements to law enforcement.
Quinton Simon was reported missing on October 5, 2022, from his home in Chatham County. Authorities named his mother, Leilani Simon, as the sole suspect six days into the investigation. On November 18, 2022, Quinton’s remains were discovered in a landfill located in Chatham County, leading to Simon’s arrest three days later.
“The death of little Quinton Simon has had a profound impact on the community and touched many lives,” Judge Stokes noted during the sentencing. The legal proceedings detailed that Simon would serve life in prison for the primary count of Malice Murder, while lesser charges were either vacated or ordered to be served concurrently or consecutively, depending on their nature.
The case drew significant attention over the past couple of years, not only because of its severity but also due to the emotional weight carried by the community and those directly involved in the proceedings.
