Seahawks Activate Rayshawn Jenkins Ahead of Cardinals Matchup
The Seattle Seahawks have activated safety Rayshawn Jenkins from injured reserve as they prepare for their upcoming NFC West clash against the Arizona Cardinals, scheduled for Sunday at Lumen Field. This development comes after Jenkins missed the past four games due to a hand injury that required surgery. Before his absence, Jenkins played every defensive snap in the team’s first six games of the season.
Head Coach Mike Macdonald commented on Jenkins’ return, stating, «We’re getting some depth back. It’s just good problems to have. Good players that play multiple spots. You don’t want to get too cute with it because then you get kind of in disarray a little bit. So, trying to maximize our continuity back there as well as seamlessly getting Rayshawn back into the fold. So yeah, it’s exciting.»
Aside from Jenkins, the Seahawks have also promoted tight end Tyler Mabry and linebacker Patrick O'Connell from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. Mabry’s elevation comes as the Seahawks face potential shortages in their tight end roster, due in part to injuries that have sidelined some of the team’s key players. Mabry was only recently re-signed to the practice squad after being waived following last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. O’Connell, now on his third elevation this season, adds depth to the linebacker position.
During Jenkins’ injury absence, Coby Bryant took on a more significant role in the Seahawks’ defense, starting in four consecutive games. Bryant’s performance included an interception, three pass breakups, and a tackle for loss. This rise in Bryant’s role creates a competitive atmosphere for playing time among the team’s safeties ahead of Jenkins’ return. Meanwhile, Julian Love, another starter, and K’Von Wallace, who is currently on injured reserve, add to the Seahawks’ secondary lineup considerations.
As the Seahawks face the division-leading Arizona Cardinals, they aim to leverage their roster adjustments to bolster their standing in the NFC West. Sunday’s game presents another opportunity for the team to make strategic use of its available talent, particularly in light of Jenkins’ much-anticipated return.
