Senior Journalist Umesh Upadhyay Passes Away in Accident

On September 1, 2024, senior journalist and writer Umesh Upadhyay tragically passed away following an accident at an under-construction building in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi.

According to police reports, the 64-year-old journalist was inspecting the renovation of his residence when he accidentally fell from the fourth floor to the second floor around 10:30 a.m. The fall resulted in severe head injuries.

Despite being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, Upadhyay succumbed to his injuries. His sudden death has resulted in a deep sense of loss within the journalism community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on social media, stating he was “deeply saddened” by the news of Upadhyay’s passing. In his post, he highlighted Upadhyay’s valuable contributions to digital media and television.

Modi also referred to Upadhyay’s death as an “irreparable loss” for journalism and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this time of grief.
