Sero Selected by British Gas for Wales Net Zero Homes Project
British Gas has recently announced its partnership with Sero, a prominent net zero firm based in Cardiff, for the decarbonization of approximately 1,500 homes annually in Wales over an initial three-year period.
The collaboration aims to align with the PAS2035 retrofitting standard and includes the implementation of low carbon technologies such as insulation, low carbon heating systems, and renewable energy technologies in residential properties across Wales.
Sero will oversee and coordinate the end-to-end project, supporting British Gas’ retrofit assessors and installers in delivering sustainable solutions for homeowners.
In a strategic move, British Gas secured a £200 million, seven-year contract with the Welsh government to execute its Warm Homes Programme, which focuses on combating fuel poverty and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
Ross Kirwan, the NEST operations manager at British Gas, expressed confidence in Sero’s capabilities for large-scale retrofitting programs and emphasized British Gas’ commitment to supporting the Welsh government’s ambitious net zero targets.
Andy Sutton, the co-founder and chief innovation officer of Sero, also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the significance of decarbonizing homes to meet the Welsh government’s net zero 2050 goal.
As part of the project, Sero will develop improvement options evaluations (IOE) and medium-term improvement plans (MTIP), outlining the necessary measures and sequencing for each property to enhance energy efficiency.
The Warm Homes Programme initiated by the Welsh government seeks to address emissions in residential housing, promote eco-friendly Welsh materials, and create job opportunities within the local Welsh community.
