Severe Storms Cause Widespread Power Outages in Middle Tennessee
Severe storms tore through Middle Tennessee, leaving a trail of destruction and power outages in their wake. The inclement weather led to a tornado touching down off Bear Creek Pike in the eastern part of Columbia.
The Columbia Police Department reported multiple incidents of downed trees and power lines which blocked roadways, including near Old Highway 99. Tragically, one fatality and several injuries have been confirmed in the aftermath of the storm.
As of 7:40 a.m., various counties and districts reported significant power outages. Nashville and the surrounding area served by Nashville Electric Service experienced 959 outages, while Montgomery County (Cumberland Membership Electric Corp.) had 24 outages. Sumner County (CMEC) reported 446 outages, Stewart County (CMEC) had 307, Robertson County (CMEC) had 50, and Cheatham County (CMEC) reported 3 outages.
In addition, Wilson County and Rutherford County (served by Middle Tennessee Electric) reported 233 and 288 outages respectively. Meanwhile, Williamson County (Middle Tennessee Electric) reported 104 outages, and Maury County, including Columbia Power & Water Systems, reported a staggering 801 outages. Duck River Electric, which serves multiple counties such as Coffee, Franklin, Bedford, Moore, Marshall, and Giles, reported a total of 4,300 outages.
