Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Issued in Central Okanagan and Calgary
Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for multiple regions, including the Central Okanagan in British Columbia and Calgary in Alberta. The alerts have been prompted by the forecast of significant storm activity expected to affect these areas shortly.
In the Central Okanagan, Environment Canada has reported that a cluster of severe thunderstorms is located approximately 10 kilometers southeast of Kelowna. These storms are moving northwest at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour. Residents are advised to prepare for potential impacts in the next 15 minutes.
The warning indicates that the storms may bring large hail and heavy rain. Environment Canada has stated that conditions are favorable for such severe weather, which can also include damaging winds.
Meanwhile, in Calgary, Environment Canada has issued a warning for thunderstorms moving into southern Alberta from the BC border at a rapid pace of 70 kilometers per hour. Winds associated with these storms could result in damage to loose objects and structures.
Calgary residents are reminded to seek cover immediately if severe weather approaches. An outage has already been reported in the western part of the city, affecting areas such as Coach Hill, Patterson, Cougar Ridge, and Bowness.
The estimated restoration time for power in the affected areas is around 12:30 a.m. local time. Previous storms in the region have already left a significant impact, with many residents still recovering from baseball-sized hail that caused damage to vehicles and homes.
