Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Southern Ontario, Including Cambridge
Environment Canada has raised a severe thunderstorm watch for a significant part of Southern Ontario, encompassing areas like Cambridge. The advisory alerts that conditions are conducive for the formation of hazardous thunderstorms capable of generating strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall.
The impacted zone stretches along the Lake Huron shoreline from Windsor up to Sault Ste Marie and Huntsville, including urban centers such as London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Barrie, Sarnia, Woodstock, and Collingwood. These thunderstorms are forecasted to arrive in the afternoon and extend into the early evening as a cold front moves through the region.
Environment Canada cautions that wind gusts may reach up to 100 km/h, accompanied by heavy downpours and nickel-sized hail. The agency warns that such powerful winds can displace loose objects, inflict damage on weak structures, snap tree branches, and topple large vehicles.
The warning also highlights the risk of flash floods and water accumulation on roads due to the heavy downpours. Canadians are advised to be prepared to take action if threatening weather approaches, with a reminder that lightning poses a significant danger, urging individuals to seek shelter indoors when thunder is heard.
