Severe Weather Alert in Southwestern Quebec Lifted
A tornado warning issued Wednesday afternoon in southwestern Quebec has been lifted.
n
The areas of Lachute and Saint-Jérôme were cautioned to take precautions as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado approached.
n
Winds, destructive weather, large hail, and intense rainfall were also possible as indicated in an alert sent out by the government earlier in the afternoon.
n
However, the severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for the rest of the southern part of the province.
n
This afternoon, conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce strong gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. There’s also a risk of tornadoes, according to Environment Canada.
n
A high wind alert has been issued in certain areas of Nunavik. In Salluit, gusts could reach up to 100 km/h, potentially causing injuries or damage.
n
In case of a tornado alert, the meteorological agency recommends seeking shelter and waiting in the lowest level of your home, away from windows and exterior walls.
n
If you hear a rumbling noise or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, or other threatening weather phenomena approaching, it’s advised to seek cover immediately.
