Environnement Canada issued a tornado alert in the Laurentides region this afternoon, which has now been lifted. The severe thunderstorm watch is still in effect. The public was advised to seek shelter in the basement or in a windowless room in the event of threatening weather. Outside, people were urged to protect themselves from flying debris.

At 2:09 PM, meteorologists from Environment Canada were monitoring a storm that could potentially produce a tornado. Destructive winds, large hail, and intense rainfall in some areas were also possible. Immediate shelter was recommended if threatening weather approached. One or more weak tornadoes could occur in the area, sometimes appearing as funnel clouds accompanied by swirling debris near the ground.

Throughout the Laurentides region, this afternoon and evening, conditions were favorable for the formation of dangerous storms capable of producing very strong gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall.

The City of Saint-Sauveur is organizing the Environmental Day on May 26, from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This event is aimed at promoting environmental awareness and participation in sustainable practices.

The organization Éco-corridors laurentiens and Val-des-Lacs have initiated efforts to protect over 50% of the municipality’s territory located between Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and another area.

The Saint-Sauveur council has approved its first natural conservation plan, part of the 2021-2023 Environmental Action Plan. The plan is designed to preserve and protect natural habitats in the region.

Last Monday, April 22, in observance of Earth Day, the Laurentides Regional Environmental Council officially launched the network to promote environmental sustainability and conservation.
