Shakib Al Hasan Bangladesh Cricket Or Shakib Al Hasan Named In Murder Case Amid Bangladesh Protests

Former Bangladesh cricket captain and renowned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named among 147 individuals accused in connection with a murder case linked to protests in Bangladesh. The allegations stem from events that took place in early August, as reported by multiple sources.

The case was filed by Rafiqul Islam at the Adabor police station in Dhaka. His complaint centers on the murder of his son, Mohammed Rubel, a garment worker who was fatally shot while participating in a protest on August 5. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Rubel suffered serious gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

Notably, Shakib Al Hasan was not present in Bangladesh during the time of the protests, as he was engaged in the Global T20 Canada league, playing for the Bangla Tigers Mississauga from July 26 until August 9. This timeline has raised questions regarding his involvement in the incidents that unfolded during the protests.

The FIR states that several accused individuals allegedly opened fire on protesting students, including Rubel. The unrest resulted in a significant number of casualties, with estimates from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights suggesting over 400 deaths occurred during this tumultuous period.

Following the political upheaval in Bangladesh, marked by the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, an interim government was established, leading to notable changes within the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The board has now appointed Faruque Ahmed as its new president.

Shakib Al Hasan, a well-respected figure in international cricket, has enjoyed a prolific career, representing Bangladesh in 67 Tests, 247 One Day Internationals, and 129 T20 Internationals. His contributions to the sport have made him one of the top all-rounders globally, further complicating the impact of these allegations on his career.
