Shinnosuke Oka has made a splash at the Paris Olympics by winning the men’s gymnastics all-around title, marking a continuing success for Japanese gymnasts. With a score of 86.832, he stands at the pinnacle of the podium, following in the footsteps of legends like Kohei Uchimura and Daiki Hashimoto.

Oka, just 20 years old, is not only celebrating this personal victory but also adding another medal to his collection which includes a gold he helped secure for Japan in the men’s team event. He expressed his excitement, saying, «I’ve achieved creating a mark as (an Olympic) champion,» and emphasized his desire to keep challenging himself and winning.

The silver medal went to Zhang Boheng from China, who managed to recover from a fall during his first rotation to finish with a score of 86.599. Xiao Ruoteng also of China took home the bronze medal, finishing with a score of 86.364, making it a historic podium with two Chinese gymnasts.

Defending champion Daiki Hashimoto had a tough day, finishing in sixth place after a critical error on the pommel horse left him struggling to catch up throughout the event. He reflected on his experience, mentioning that his journey to Paris has been challenging but viewed it as an opportunity for personal growth.

Meanwhile, the American gymnasts faced difficulties, with Frederick Richard finishing 15th and Paul Juda in 14th. Richard’s slip on the pommel horse proved costly, while Juda had some bright moments on the rings and parallel bars.

Oleg Verniaiev from Ukraine made his return to Olympic competition after a doping ban, finishing eighth. His presence at these Games was a notable comeback after being out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
