Shooting Incident Reported at Apalachee High School
Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, which occurred on Wednesday. Multiple injuries have been reported, although the exact number and severity of these injuries remain unclear at this time.
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith held a press conference where he described the situation as an ongoing investigation, noting, «This is a very, very fluid investigation.» He did not provide details regarding fatalities but confirmed that at least one individual with a gunshot wound was transported to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.
Reports indicate that several other victims may have been injured, with local media outlets citing numerous casualties resulting from the incident. Emergency personnel were observed loading victims into helicopters and ambulances for medical attention.
In response to the unfolding situation, Apalachee High School administrators initiated a hard lockdown shortly after 10:45 a.m., advising parents not to come to the campus while law enforcement secured the area. Nearby schools also implemented lockdown protocols as a precautionary measure.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the FBI dispatched agents to the scene to assist local and state law enforcement with the investigation. Governor Brian Kemp offered support, urging the public to pray for the safety of students in Barrow County and throughout Georgia.
