Shoplifting Suspect Arrested Following Foot Chase in Kimball Junction
PARK CITY, Utah — A man suspected of shoplifting from Smith's grocery store in Kimball Junction was apprehended this morning after a foot chase with deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began when law enforcement attempted to contact the suspect at his residence in the Redstone area of Park City. After the individual declined to answer the door, deputies departed. Sgt. Skyler Talbot, the public information officer for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, stated, «We just didn’t have the legal standing to enter the home, even though we knew he likely was involved in this theft. A short time later, we returned, spoke to family members, who said he had left and was on a jog.»
Deputies located the suspect on a nearby bike trail. «We attempted to contact him, and he fled on foot,» Sgt. Talbot explained. Law enforcement eventually caught up to the suspect and deployed a Taser, successfully taking him into custody.
The individual, described as a man in his 30s and a resident of Kimball Junction, is accused of theft from the Smith’s grocery store. The total value of the stolen goods is currently under investigation. Sgt. Talbot noted, «Smith’s is still trying to do an accounting for what all they believe was taken. It sounds like the individual was just going through aisles, putting things in bags.»
The suspect’s identity has not been revealed as formal charges are pending. He is anticipated to be booked into the county jail, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
