Skoda Announces New Compact SUV: The Skoda Kylaq
Skoda has officially unveiled the name of its upcoming compact SUV: the Skoda Kylaq. This new vehicle represents the latest addition to Skoda’s expanding SUV lineup. From the visual outline, it appears that Skoda is set to offer a sub-4m SUV, which will compete with popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet.
The name ‘Kylaq’ aligns with Skoda’s established naming convention for its SUVs, typically ending with the letter ‘Q’. Other models within this lineup include the Kodiaq, Karoq, and Kushaq. The naming is intended to reflect the vehicle’s core attributes, including strength and elegance.
While detailed specifications have yet to be disclosed, the Skoda Kylaq is anticipated to feature more advanced capabilities than those offered in the Skoda Kushaq, which is positioned in a higher segment. It is expected to include enhanced safety features and the latest in-car technology, such as a 360-degree parking camera, making it suitable for both city driving and long journeys.
In terms of powertrains, Skoda may opt to use the same 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine found in its Kushaq model. The new SUV is also likely to inherit the same transmission options as its larger sibling. The Kylaq is part of Skoda’s strategic initiative to strengthen its presence in the growing SUV market, specifically targeting the competitive compact SUV segment.
The official launch of the Skoda Kylaq is expected to take place early next year, specifically in March.
