Smriti Mandhana Shines with Record-breaking Century in India vs South Africa Women’s ODI
India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana showcased her brilliance on the field as she played a record-breaking innings in the first ODI against South Africa Women at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Opting to bat first, India faced early setbacks but Mandhana stood firm, eventually reaching her sixth ODI century against a formidable South African bowling attack.
Mandhana’s exceptional performance saw her surpass the previous highest ODI score at home by an Indian woman, previously held by Mithali Raj.
She beautifully crafted her innings, displaying a wide array of shots, including 12 boundaries and a lofted six off Masabata Klaas.
By achieving this milestone, Mandhana also crossed the monumental 7000-run mark across formats, joining the elite club with the likes of Mithali Raj.
Her unbeaten 117 off 121 deliveries not only anchored India’s innings but also propelled her to become the second-highest ODI century-maker among Indian women, just one ton shy of equaling Mithali Raj’s record.
India finished their innings at 265/8, with Pooja Vastrakar‘s contribution of 31 not out playing a crucial role in setting a competitive total against the Proteas.
