South Texas Schools Receive Career Training Grants to Equip Students for High-Demand Occupations

Two schools in South Texas have been chosen as recipients of significant grants aimed at enhancing career and technical education programs within the region. Governor Greg Abbott made the official announcement today, revealing that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) had awarded grants totaling $578,399 to support training initiatives.

The grants, known as JET grants, are specifically designed to assist in the purchase and installation of equipment that will facilitate the training of over 1,220 students in high-demand occupations such as welding and registered nursing. Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in students to equip them with the skills needed to thrive in Texas’ flourishing economy.

«The need for skilled workers in Texas is on the rise, and initiatives like these JET grants play a crucial role in preparing our workforce for the demands of the state’s growing economy,» stated TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel during the announcement. This effort is part of the state’s commitment to building a strong and talented workforce.

At a ceremony held earlier today at Laredo College, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III presented the grants to the selected schools. The event was attended by various state and local officials, as well as school staff who will be directly involved in implementing the new training programs.

The two schools in South Texas that will benefit from the JET grants will now have the resources needed to develop career and technical education programs that align with the current demands of the workforce.
