Special Probe Team SIT Submits Report on Hathras Stampede Incident
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the tragic stampede incident that occurred on July 2 at a Satsang gathering in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, has submitted a detailed report to the authorities. The nearly 300-page report sheds light on the reasons behind the stampede, citing overcrowding as the primary cause.
The report by the Special Investigation Team did not dismiss the possibility of a conspiracy surrounding the stampede and recommended a thorough investigation into the incident. It highlighted negligence on the part of the event organizers for failing to make adequate crowd management arrangements.
According to sources, the local police and administration were also held accountable for not taking the Satsang event seriously, which led to the tragic outcome. The report mentioned that six officials, including the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), were suspended following the investigations into the stampede.
The stampede unfolded as over 2 lakh individuals gathered for the Satsang, far exceeding the permitted capacity of around 80,000 people. The report includes statements from various key figures such as the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and other officials present on the day of the incident.
The Special Investigation Team’s findings point to a lack of proper planning and organization during the Satsang event, ultimately resulting in the devastating stampede that claimed the lives of 121 individuals. The authorities have taken steps to address the lapses and initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
