Speculation Surrounds Deryck Whibley’s Potential Role with Linkin Park
Linkin Park fans are currently speculating that Deryck Whibley, the frontman of Sum 41, may be stepping in to join the band following the passing of their lead singer, Chester Bennington.
On Monday, Sum 41 teased an announcement from Whibley set for Wednesday morning, coinciding with a countdown by Linkin Park which began on Saturday for an event lasting 100 hours.
This overlap in timing has ignited rumors, particularly since Whibley previously performed at the Bennington tribute concert in 2017. Additionally, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park collaborated with Whibley during a live performance of LP’s song «Faint» in 2018.
In a 2022 interview, Whibley expressed his thoughts on the possibility of joining Linkin Park, saying that he found it to be an “impossible task” and even labeled it a “non-possibility.” However, as Sum 41’s farewell tour concludes in January, it is possible that his stance has changed.
Linkin Park has also been rumored to be considering a reunion for the first time since Bennington’s tribute concert. Reports from April indicated that members Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Dave “Phoenix” Farrell were contemplating a reunion tour in 2025, with the possibility of introducing a female vocalist to replace Bennington.
