In an exciting showdown, Sri Lanka claimed a significant victory over India in the third ODI held in Colombo on Wednesday. The Lankans defeated the Indian team by 110 runs, sealing the series with a 2-0 win.

This defeat marks a significant moment for India, as they have lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka for the first time in 27 years. The last instance of this was in 1997, when India, led by Arjun Ranatunga, lost 3-0 to Sri Lanka.

Dunith Wellalage led the charge for Sri Lanka with an impressive bowling display, taking five wickets for just 27 runs in 5.1 overs. His performance was a pivotal factor in restricting India to a mere 138 runs.

Sri Lanka began the match, winning the toss and opting to bat first. They scored 248 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs, with Avishka Fernando contributing a solid 96 runs and Kusal Mendis adding 59.

In response, India struggled to build any momentum, losing wickets continuously. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for India with 35 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered significantly, leading to an early collapse.

Mahesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay also chipped in with two wickets each, making it a challenging outing for the Indian batsmen. As the match progressed, wickets kept falling, and India was eventually bowled out in just 26.1 overs.

The match highlighted the stark contrast between the two teams, as Sri Lanka successfully maintained both their batting and bowling pressure throughout the game, ending India’s hope of a series comeback.
