S.W.A.T. Star Reflects on Views of Marriage and Family
The 54-year-old star of the television series S.W.A.T. has recently opened up about his personal views on marriage and family life. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the actor, who became a father for the first time in January 2023 with partner Jesiree Dizon, spoke candidly about his unconventional perspective on marriage.
Despite being in a committed relationship with Dizon, aged 41, the actor revealed that he never envisioned marriage as part of his future plan. He stated, «I didn’t have a good role model of marriage in my life. Not my mother, not my father. Nobody close to me.» He further elaborated on his views by questioning the traditional norms associated with marriage, such as prenuptials, in a conversation he recalled having with his mother.
The actor expressed his belief in living in the moment, saying, «To me, it’s just like tomorrow’s not guaranteed, but Jesiree, I’ll give you everything I got today and tomorrow. She is my partner. She is the mother of Frankie. Frankie has a dope-ass mama, and I’m going to try to be a dope-ass daddy. And we going to do that until God calls my name.»
In addition to his daughter, Frankie, the actor embraces a father-figure role to Dizon’s two children from previous relationships, Charli and Kayden. He emphasized his wish to provide a stable environment for them, stating, «I want to give her the best life. Not just material stuff. Just keep her safe. Keep them all safe. Kaiden, Charli, Frankie, Desiree.»
The star also reflected on feelings of regret and guilt over not having children before the death of his mother, Marylin Joan Wilson-Moore, in 2020. He shared that one of his mother’s dreams was to be a grandmother, a wish that remained unfulfilled in her lifetime. «My mother’s dream, and I still feel guilty about it, was to be a grandma,» he said.
Despite this regret, he finds comfort in seeing resemblances of his late mother in his daughter, especially in her mannerisms. «She walks like my mother,» he shared, noting the similar «waddle» she inherited.
