Star-Studded Zoom Call Rallies Support for Kamala Harris
In a unique turn of events, a Zoom call named «White Dudes for Harris» drew in a star-studded crowd, including actor Jeff Bridges, known for his role as The Dude in the cult classic movie, «The Big Lebowski.» The call aimed to rally support for Vice President Kamala Harris‘s presidential campaign and managed to attract over 150,000 participants, raising an impressive $3.3 million.

Bridges chimed in with his iconic laid-back style, saying, “As The Dude might say, ‘That’s just my opinion, man.’” This virtual event was part of a larger outreach effort to engage different supporter groups. Previous events focused on groups like Black women, Hispanic women, and the LGBTQ+ community, highlighting the party’s effort to create a diverse coalition ahead of the election.

The call featured not only Bridges but also fellow actors like Mark Ruffalo and Mark Hamill, as well as political figures like Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. Each brought their own flair to the conversation, with Pritzker humorously noting, “a rainbow of beige” to describe the numerous white male speakers.

Walz encouraged attendees to embrace progressive values, stating that understanding and supporting one another is crucial in this political landscape. Ross Morales Rocketto, who started the «White Dudes for Harris» group, emphasized that many white men do not subscribe to the MAGA movement and are looking for a more inclusive political vision.

The Harris campaign heavily benefits from these fundraising efforts organized by grassroots supporters rather than the official campaign team. Harris’s campaign communications director, Michael Tyler, noted that genuine support is essential for winning elections.

As the event progressed, discussions turned serious with Cooper’s powerful statement against the GOP’s attempts to label Harris as a “DEI candidate.” He asserted that such claims imply women and people of color are unqualified for leadership, which he firmly opposes.

With the excitement building for Harris, the Zoom call captured the rising momentum of her campaign, especially following Biden’s recent exit from the race. Harris’s potential to make history looms large, as she stands to be the first woman and the second person of color to hold the presidency in the U.S.
