Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij has recently encountered a thigh injury while playing in a friendly match against Al-Ittihad.

This unfortunate development comes amidst other players like Mehdi Taremi, Marko Arnautovic, and Piotr Zielinski also sidelined due to muscle issues.

In this match, which was Inter’s fifth friendly during this preseason, the team suffered a disappointing 0-2 loss to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

However, it’s worth noting that the outcome of the match wasn’t the main focus, as Inter was using this game primarily to improve their physical fitness and tactical coordination before the Serie A season kicks off in just over a week.

That said, the team’s performance left a lot to be desired, and it’s clear there’s still much work needed in training.

Worryingly, the injury count is rising for the club, with de Vrij, a former Lazio player, coming on as a substitute for his fellow ex-Biancocelesti player, Francesco Acerbi, in the 63rd minute of the match.

De Vrij managed to play for half an hour but had to leave the pitch during stoppage time in the 93rd minute due to discomfort in his left thigh.

While the exact nature of the injury remains uncertain, there’s fear of muscular strain, and de Vrij is expected to undergo medical tests in the next couple of days.

Since the match was nearing its end, de Vrij was not officially substituted; instead, Inter finished the game with ten players after he exited.
