Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has fired back at Mikel Obi‘s recent comments questioning his coaching abilities on a podcast.

Oliseh, who had a brief tenure as the head coach of the Nigerian national team starting in July 2015, has responded to Mikel’s critique.

The former Chelsea star had raised concerns about Oliseh’s coaching tactics and his relationships with players during their time together on the Super Eagles squad.

Oliseh’s coaching stint was marked by controversies, including the early retirement of legendary goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama following an altercation with the coach.

Despite Mikel’s remarks, Oliseh maintains that he harbors no ill will towards the former Chelsea midfielder but advises him to refrain from making false statements.

In his reaction, Oliseh highlighted his successes in coaching, including winning the best coach award in the Dutch Jupiler League, making history as the first colored man from Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve such a feat.

Oliseh also weighed in on Mikel’s statements about his family, expressing disappointment over the former footballer’s comments regarding financial assistance to his relatives.

Mikel’s assertion that Oliseh mistreated Elderson Echiejile was refuted by the coach, who clarified his decisions during their time working together.

Oliseh suggested that Mikel’s recent comments may stem from the challenges of transitioning from a professional football career to retirement, emphasizing the need for continued growth and personal development beyond the pitch.

With both figures having made significant contributions to Nigerian football, this exchange sheds light on the intricacies and challenges faced by players and coaches post-retirement.
