Suryakumar Yadav Talks About His Strong Bond with Gautam Gambhir
Suryakumar Yadav, who will lead the Indian cricket team for the first time in a T20I series against Sri Lanka, has opened up about his special connection with the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir. As the action kicks off in Pallekele, Suryakumar reflects on the time he spent playing under Gambhir’s leadership in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) back in 2014.
Speaking to BCCI.TV, Suryakumar shared how he has enjoyed being a leader on the field, even when he wasn’t the captain. He described leadership as both a feeling of pride and a hefty responsibility.
This relationship with Gambhir, he says, is significant because it was Gambhir who helped him secure opportunities in cricket. He mentioned that they understand each other’s work ethics well, which has contributed to their strong bond.
Besides discussing his relationship with Gambhir, Suryakumar emphasized a valuable lesson he has learned from cricket: the importance of humility. He believes it’s essential to stay grounded, whether one is winning or facing challenges on the field.
As he prepares for the upcoming series, Suryakumar’s leadership experience from the previous year, where he captained India in seven T20Is, will surely come in handy. With Gambhir now at the helm, both swear by a close bond that could help India excel in this series.
The first T20I match against Sri Lanka will take place at the Pallekele International Stadium, marking the beginning of a three-match T20I series, followed by ODIs. It’s an exciting time for Indian cricket, especially with Gambhir stepping in as the new head coach, not to mention the recent contributions from legendary coaches like Ravi Shastri, who offered some key advice to Suryakumar.
