Sydney‘s coach John Longmire is pleased with his team’s eighth consecutive win but sees areas for improvement following their triumph over Geelong at the SCG. Despite a slow start where they trailed by 35 points, the Swans staged a remarkable comeback with five quick goals to seal a 30-point victory.

Longmire highlighted concerns over the team’s slow starts this season, noting their frequent deficits at quarter time in half of the matches played. While acknowledging the turnaround in the game against Geelong, Longmire emphasized the need for a stronger start from his team.

Brodie Grundy’s dominance with 21 contested possessions and 25 disposals, coupled with stellar performances from Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, and Errol Gulden in the midfield, were key factors in the Swans’ resurgence.

Tom Papley shone in the second half with four goals, showcasing his on-field impact. Young gun Joel Amartey also impressed, contributing three majors while forming a potent attacking force alongside Papley.

Despite an initial surge from Geelong led by Max Holmes, Tom Atkins, and Tanner Bruhn, the Cats struggled to contain the Swans’ relentless momentum. Geelong’s midfield faced a challenge after missing key players like Patrick Dangerfield and Cam Guthrie.

Cats coach Chris Scott commended Sydney’s midfield prowess, recognizing their ability to overpower his team. Scott acknowledged the strength of the Swans’ midfield unit, suggesting that several Sydney players could be contenders for All-Australian selection.
