SZA, the renowned R&B artist, surprised fans with her athletic prowess in a recent handstand contest with the legendary gymnast Simone Biles. The friendly competition, captured in an NBC promo released Monday, showcased a different side of SZA outside her musical talents.

The Grammy-winning artist visited Biles at the World Champions Centre, the gymnast’s family-owned training facility in Spring, Texas. This marked the first meeting between SZA and Biles, who secured her place in the Paris Olympics following her triumph at the U.S. trials on Sunday night.

During the encounter, Biles inquired about SZA’s transition from gymnastics to music, with the R&B star referring to music as her «hidden talent.» SZA, who clinched three Grammy awards this year, revealed her deep involvement in gymnastics for over a decade before soaring to musical stardom.

As the two stars stretched, SZA surprised Biles by effortlessly holding a solid handstand position for a few seconds. Biles, initially thinking SZA was just practicing, couldn’t hide her excitement at the singer’s impressive display.

Engaging in a simultaneous handstand challenge, both women held their positions for about 15 seconds. SZA emerged as the winner when Biles’ feet touched the ground first, prompting applause from the gymnastics icon.

The video is part of NBC’s strategy to infuse pop culture into its coverage leading up to the Paris Olympics, set to commence on July 26. Previous promotional features have included other prominent figures like Cardi B, Sha’Carri Richardson, Lily Collins, Noah Lyles, and Joseph Lee, showcasing the blend of sports and entertainment excitement in the upcoming Olympic Games.
