Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Announces Construction of International Airport in Hosur
In a significant move to boost economic growth and connectivity, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has declared the construction of a new international airport in the industrial town of Hosur. This airport, spanning over 2,000 acres, is poised to transform Hosur into a key industrial hub of the state, with the capacity to handle three crore passengers annually.
Stalin, addressing the Assembly under Rule 110, highlighted the necessity to improve infrastructure and provide support to the burgeoning manufacturing and industrial sectors in and around Hosur. The region has witnessed a rise in investments, particularly in electronics and electric vehicles manufacturing, making the establishment of an airport crucial for further development.
The Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the visionary decision, emphasizing the airport’s potential to create a twin-city ecosystem with Bengaluru and drive growth across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Rajaa noted the anticipated benefits for Hosur and surrounding districts like Dharmapuri and Salem, as well as various parts of Bengaluru.
The State Planning Commission played a vital role in recognizing the strategic importance of an airport in Hosur, given its proximity to major industrial hubs and business clusters. Hosur’s existing connectivity to key EXIM gateways and its position as an emerging IT hub further underscore the significance of this infrastructure development.
Notably, Hosur already houses an airport owned by Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited, while the government’s plan for a new international airport aligns with its long-term strategy for economic growth and regional development. The announcement comes amidst the State’s initiatives to bolster the industrial landscape and enhance connectivity for sustained progress.
