Tampa Surprises Seniors with Dash Dollars
The City of Tampa is treating some awesome volunteers in a big way! The Community Engagement and Partnerships team recently surprised 60 seniors who volunteer with Seniors in Service by giving them each $100 worth of special “Dash Dollars.”
This initiative got a boost from a generous grant provided by DoorDash, Inc. The vouchers can be used on DoorDash.com to buy classroom supplies or personal items. This is especially helpful for those involved in the Castor’s Classroom Companions program, which supports the invaluable work of seniors in our schools.
During the previous school year, those seniors helped out 115 students, and the results were stellar, with 99% of them showing improvement in their language and literacy skills. Janelle McGregor, the Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships, shared her excitement, stating that these Dash Dollars will make a real difference for those who dedicate their time to help young learners, especially in schools that really need it.
The partnership with Seniors in Service started back in 2022 when the Castor’s Classroom Companions initiative was launched. It’s now expanded to fund 37 volunteers at 11 different schools throughout Tampa.
