Technical Glitches Disrupt JioCinema’s IPL 2025 Mega Auction Streaming
JioCinema, the official digital streaming partner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), experienced significant technical issues during the highly anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction, leaving many viewers unable to access the live stream. According to reports from DownDetector, approximately 40% of users faced challenges with the app, while 30% had difficulties with the website, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among fans.
The technical issues emerged shortly before the start of the auction on November 24, prompting viewers to encounter error messages such as «Something went wrong. Error message 419.» The disruption led to an outpouring of criticism on various social media platforms, notably impacting JioCinema’s reputation given the high profile of the event. Users also reported issues accessing their accounts or streaming the event on both the website and mobile applications.
Social media users expressed their frustration, pointing to JioCinema’s track record of technical issues during major sporting events. «Whether it’s the FIFA World Cup, IPL matches, or even the auction, JioCinema’s server crashes are inevitable,» commented one user on X, formerly known as Twitter. Some users called for a return of the streaming rights to Disney+ Hotstar, which they argued provided a «better user interface and overall experience.»
The timing of the outage was particularly problematic as the IPL auction is one of cricket’s major business events, where teams bid to build their squads for the upcoming season. Despite the challenges, service was eventually restored during the auction proceedings. However, the incident has raised questions regarding JioCinema’s reliability for broadcasting large-scale sporting events.
JioCinema, which is owned by Reliance Industries‘ digital arm, has yet to release an official statement addressing the cause of the outage or detailing the steps being taken to prevent similar issues during the forthcoming IPL 2025 season. The IPL 2025 Mega Auction attracted much attention, with all ten franchises preparing to revamp their teams. The event featured 574 players shortlisted from an initial pool of 1,574, with 208 overseas players included in the list.
