Telecom Giants Vi, Airtel, and Jio Increase Tariffs on Prepaid and Postpaid Plans

Vodafone Idea, following the lead of market leaders Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, announced a significant increase in tariffs for both its prepaid and postpaid mobile plans. The adjustments, effective from July 4, will impact a range of plan options available to customers.

The telecom company Vi revised prices for several of its popular plans. For instance, the entry-level plan, previously priced at Rs 179, will now cost Rs 199 for 28 days, with an allocation of 2 GB data. In a similar vein, the 84-day plan offering 1.5 GB data per day has been bumped up to Rs 859 from Rs 719.

Moreover, Vi has also raised the cost of its annual unlimited plan by about 21%, bringing it to Rs 3,499 from the previous Rs 2,899. Notably, the company has maintained the price of its 365-day validity plan with a 24 GB data limit at Rs 1,799 with no alterations.

Bharti Airtel has also implemented tariff increases ranging from 10-21% across both their prepaid and postpaid plans. The adjustments, set to be effective from July 3, aim to achieve an Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) of over Rs 300 as a part of a sustainable business model for telecom companies in India.

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, had previously announced a tariff hike ranging from 12-27% on their mobile plans. According to a report from PTI, Airtel’s revised pricing across plans will make them 3-22% costlier than Jio’s plans post the adjustment on July 3.

The tariff increases come shortly after the 10th spectrum auction, where Vodafone Idea secured 30 MHz of spectrum across various bands by investing Rs 3,510 crore. This move indicates the concerted efforts by telecom giants to shore up revenues amidst competitive market conditions.
