Manchester United‘s manager Erik ten Hag has come out in support of Marcus Rashford, even after the forward missed several chances in the team’s recent Community Shield defeat to City at Wembley.

Rashford had two great opportunities to score, one just before half-time, but unfortunately, he couldn’t find the back of the net. However, Ten Hag isn’t worried. He praised Rashford for getting into good positions and encouraged him to keep pushing forward, saying, «Keep going, keep making those movements, and the goals will come.»

After the match, Ten Hag was also asked about potential new signings for United. Reports have suggested the club has reached a deal for some players and might be sending others out on loan. However, Ten Hag only mentioned that the team is currently facing some injury issues that need to be addressed.

«It’s clear we have problems and we have to work with the squad available,» Ten Hag stated. He is looking ahead to their first game of the season against an upcoming opponent at Old Trafford and noted that the team is feeling the disappointment from the loss but also saw some positives from their performance.

Rashford’s previous season was underwhelming, as he didn’t make it onto England’s Euro 2024 squad. But, according to Ten Hag, this break from international duty has allowed him to focus fully on pre-season training. Ten Hag described Rashford as being very engaged and motivated to have a better season.

Looking at the team, Ten Hag noted that new signing Zirkzee might take some time to adjust to the Premier League. He acknowledged the difference in intensity compared to Zirkzee’s previous league. Nevertheless, Ten Hag is optimistic that with time, Zirkzee will fit right in with the team.
