Texas Tech Red Raiders Triumph Over Oklahoma State in High-Scoring Contest
The Texas Tech Red Raiders secured a thrilling 56-48 victory against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. The game was marked by high drama as the Red Raiders relied on critical plays, including a fumble recovery for a touchdown, a missed field goal by Oklahoma State, and a blocked point-after attempt, to finalize the win.
Tahj Brooks was the standout performer for Texas Tech, contributing significantly with four touchdowns—three rushing and one receiving. Brooks surpassed the 100-yard rushing milestone once again, marking his tenth such achievement in as many games this season. Jacob Rodriguez played a pivotal role with a decisive fumble recovery touchdown and a game-sealing interception.
Texas Tech’s season has seen its offense start strong before experiencing a decrease in momentum, a trend that continued on Saturday. The Red Raiders quickly established a 14-0 lead, amassing 166 yards on their initial two drives. However, their offense stalled thereafter, managing only 49 yards over the next four drives. This allowed Oklahoma State, led by Ollie Gordon II, to tie the game with two touchdowns.
Brooks has emerged as an increasingly important receiver for Texas Tech. By the end of the first half, he had become the team’s leading receiver, including a notable 25-yard touchdown reception. He ended the game with a career-high eight receptions for 65 yards, in addition to his impressive rushing stats of 132 yards and three touchdowns.
The defense played a crucial role in the victory, particularly in high-pressure situations. A miscue by Oklahoma State’s freshman quarterback, Maealiuaki Smith, involving a high snap resulted in significant yardage loss and later in the game, a fumble in the end zone that Rodriguez turned into a touchdown, giving Texas Tech a secure 56-42 lead with less than five minutes remaining.
While the season has had its challenges, Texas Tech’s success in away games is a noteworthy achievement. The win marked their third road victory of the season, a feat not accomplished since 2017. A forthcoming win could potentially secure their first eight-win regular season since 2009, a significant milestone for the team and its supporters.
