At least three women have tragically lost their lives, and multiple individuals have sustained injuries following a horrific collision involving a Greyhound bus on the Bruce Highway in Queensland, Australia. The devastating incident took place approximately 8 kilometers north of Gumlu, situated between the towns of Bowen and Townsville. Police Superintendent Graeme Paine confirmed that the fatal casualties and wounded passengers were onboard the bus, highlighting the severity of the crash.

Superintendent Paine disclosed that the car involved in the collision was traveling southbound while the bus was heading north. The crash occurred within a 100kph zone, causing extensive damage and resulting in life-threatening injuries to several passengers. Authorities airlifted one individual from the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine the causes of the tragic accident.

Following the collision, a total of 27 people were assessed by paramedics on-site, with seven individuals sustaining critical injuries. Queensland Ambulance transported the injured to Townsville University Hospital and Ayr Health Service emergency departments for urgent medical care. The health incident management team at Townsville Hospital and Health Service has mobilized additional staff to cater to the clinical needs of the affected bus passengers.

Due to the crash’s severity, the Bruce Highway has been temporarily closed in both directions, resulting in significant traffic disruptions.
